dated December 11, 1957: Cyprus issue

Britain is ready to discuss with Greece and Turkey any solution for the Cyprus question, and she will give “the most sympathetic consideration” to any proposal which commends itself to both the Greek and Turkish Governments, Commander Allan Noble told the Political Committee of the United Nations on December 9. The British delegate, opening the Committee’s debate on Cyprus, said: “We want to enter into discussions with them to see whether an agreement can be found. We have the welfare of the peoples of Cyprus at heart and wish to settle the dispute.”
