No names in Sonia’s speech, says Singhvi

New Delhi: With the Election Commission having issued notice to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her merchant of death remark at a recent election rally in Gujarat, her party said on Monday that the comment was not about Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

It said a reply to the notice would be submitted on Tuesday wherein the same line of argument would be furnished.

“The text [of Gandhi’s speech] is for everybody to see. No names appear in the text,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told PTI here.

On Saturday, Mr. Singhvi said: “We reiterate and stand by our statement made from the All-India Congress Committee in respect of the description of Mr. Modi. The description is not just apposite, it is mild.”

Earlier, senior Congress leader and Union Minister Kapil Sibal had said that Ms. Gandhi had not referred to anyone in her speech during her election rally in Gujarat. — PTI
