City needs new water pipes: MLA

KOCHI: Since pipe bursts have become a regular affair in the city following supply of water from the HUDCO-aided drinking water project, steps should be taken for relaying old pipes, demanded K.V. Thomas, MLA.

Most of the pipelines in Ernakulam were laid decades ago when Kochi was a municipality. It is mostly these pipes that burst under pressure.

The money required for relaying the pipes should be mobilised from the MLA and MP funds and also from the Kochi Corporation, the legislator said.

The issue has been brought to the notice of Local Administration Minister Paloli Muhammad Kutty and Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran Prof. Thomas said.
