THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Law M. Vijayakumar said here on Monday that a people’s movement cutting across political and communal considerations was necessary to spur the development of the capital city. At a function held to mark the conclusion of a three-day district-wide campaign organised by the Federation of Residents Associations, Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT), he said the development of the capital region was tied to the progress of the State as a whole. CleanlinessInaugurating the function, Sugathakumari, poet, called for a concerted effort to restore the cleanliness and beauty of the capital city. “Every citizen has a responsibility to keep the city clean. Only an environment-friendly approach will ensure balanced growth,” she said. FRAT president P.T. Bhaskara Panikker presided over the function. General secretary Paraniyam Devakumar, who led the campaign, presented a blueprint for development. Mayor C. Jayan Babu; Panniyan Ravindran MP; V.S. Surendran Pillai, MLA; District Congress Committee president V.S. Sivakumar; Communist Party of India district secretary Ramachandran Nair; Bharatiya Janata Party secretary M.T. Ramesh; Palayam Imam Hamza Moulavi Farooqi and Father Eugene Pereira were among those who addressed the gathering.
