Food for thought: Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda along with actress and social activist Shabana Azmi launching the "Ek Mutthi Anaaj" campaign organised by MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation in New Delhi on Monday. NEW DELHI: To mark International Human Rights Day, MCKS Food for the Hungry Foundation, Delhi, formally launched its campaign “Ek Mutthi Anaaj” at the Constitution Club here on Monday. On this special day, the Foundation honoured Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, for his work towards eradicating hunger in the State. Mr. Koda along with Bollywood actor and social activist Shabana Azmi formally launched the “Ek Mutthi Anaaj” campaign by pouring a handful of grain into the bucket. In his address, Mr. Koda said the Government was trying to eliminate poverty from the country. “Through various programmes running in the country, we are trying to achieve our goal. A number of programmes are also in the pipeline. The role of non-government organisations are pivotal in making the people aware about the initiatives of the Government. The NGOs should come forward with campaigns like ‘Ek Mutthi Anaaj’ that could strengthen the hands of Government in combating hunger and poverty,” added Mr. Koda, who also pledged to make Jharkhand hunger-free on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Azmi said: “A handful of grain, which many of us today comfortably ignore, could create a lot of difference in the lives of millions encompassed by poverty and deprivation. Though this campaign has started in Delhi, I request everyone from our country to become part of this noble and unique campaign.” “Ek Mutthi Anaaj” is a national campaign for zero hunger legislation in the country to ensure livelihood and food security for the underprivileged. Through this initiative, the Foundation encourages contributions from donors in the form of grain rather than cash.
