New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Seeking a compensation of Rs 1 crore per acre for the farmers, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan on Monday demanded that adequate steps be taken to ensure that the farmers who lose their land do not have to stare at a dark future for their family and children. The BJP leader said the present compensation for the land of the farmers was insufficient. He said while the Delhi Development Authority earns crores of rupees from every acre of land, the compensation given to the farmers is pittance in comparison. Dr. Vardhan said the circle rate for unauthorised colonies and villages fixed by the Delhi Government was also very small. “It may be mentioned that the Delhi Government has fixed circle rates at the rate of Rs.7,000 per yard for Lal Dora areas and unauthorised colonies. Due to this the price of land in those colonies has increased substantially, while the basic amenities are not even nominal,” he said, seeking that the circle rates be fixed in view of the available basic amenities in each colony and village. The BJP unit president charged that the Delhi Government was also confusing the residents of unauthorised colonies by repeatedly assuring that the colonies would be regularised soon. Actually, however, he said, it had no right to regularise the unauthorised colonies. Stern conditions“It is the Union Urban Development Ministry that has the right to regularise all the unauthorised colonies of Delhi. This Ministry has prescribed such stern conditions for regularising these colonies that they may not be regularised even in the next 10 years,” he said with concern.
