Muslim organisations implead as parties in quota case

Special Correspondent

“Thowheed Jamaath wants to save the proposal”

CHENNAI: Three Muslim organisations – Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and Advocates Meelad Forum – have impleaded themselves as parties to the proceedings relating to a public interest litigation petition against reservation for minority communities in the State.

The First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice V. Ramasubramanian permitted the organisations to implead themselves on Monday, and posted the batch of petitions to the third week of January 2008 for further proceedings.

In his petition, the Thowheed Jamaath secretary, S.M. Syed Iqbal, said the legislation was intended to benefit the backward sections of the Muslim community, and added that the organisation was interested in saving the proposal as any order against it would adversely affect the community.
