Shooting
KUWAIT: Gagan Narang put aside the disappointment of finishing outside the medals bracket in his pet 10m air rifle event as he shot impressively to win the silver medal in the 50m rifle prone event at the Asian shooting championship here on Monday. Narang shot a 595 out of 600 in the qualification round and was tied with Zhanbo Jia of China for the first place. In the finals, however, Narang overcame hiccups and managed 100.7, while Jia shot a 105.0 to claim the gold. Korea’s Bong Duk Park, who was four shots behind the leaders, scored 103.7 in the final and settled for the bronze. Narang’s good score in the qualification round provided India yet another medal, a team silver, with a total of 1768. Sanjeev Rajput (589) and Surendra Singh Rathore (584) were the other members in the Indian team. China won the gold medal with a total of 1770 and Japan took the bronze with 1766. The results: 50m rifle prone: 1. Zhanbo Jia (Chn) (595, 105.0) 700, 2. Gagan Narang (Ind) (595, 100.7) 695.7, 3. Bong Duk Park (Kor) (591, 103.7) 694.7.
