Importance of cross-cultural exchange to integrate people highlighted
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Cross-cultural exchange between countries is necessary to integrate people of different styles together, Consul-General of Singapore Ajit Singh said here on Monday.
Inaugurating an International Festival of Fine Arts (IFFA), organised by the School of Fine and Performing Arts of Madras University, he said such exchanges would strengthen the existing political and economic ties between India and Singapore.
In the city-state, the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) is involved in creating awareness about Indian art forms among Indians living abroad and people from different ethnicities and culture, he said. Mr. Singh commended the efforts of the University in conducting an international festival in the city.
The IFFA would be held till December 14 and on December 20 at Madras University, Chepauk. Each day is set apart for a country’s programme, in which dignitaries of the respective Consulates would deliver speeches.
Madras University Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran emphasised the need for having such fine arts festivals to spread Indian culture and tradition across boundaries.
