Siddaramaiah Chitradurga: Corruption in politics is so deep-rooted that it is extremely difficult to bring in reforms, the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said. Speaking after inaugurating the S. Nijalingappa memorial here on Monday, he said only the youth could bring about significant changes. Gandhian valuesReferring to the former Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa, he said, “All through his life, he upheld Gandhian values. He lived a simple and honest life.” Mr. Siddaramaiah, who had released Rs. 1 crore during his tenure as Finance Minister for the memorial, regretted that he could not release the Rs. 2 crore sought by the memorial trust. The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash said that no present-day politician could be compared to Nijalingappa.Mr. Prakash said that Nijalingappa had laid strict emphasis on empowering cottage industries and administrative decentralisation. MemorialThe Nijalingappa memorial should be developed on the lines of Raj Ghat in Delhi. He described Mr. Nijalingappa as an institution.Mr. Prakash said that the former Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had released Rs. 1 crore for the development of the memorial, which would soon be handed over to the trust. The former MLA G.H. Tippareddy was present.
