Special Correspondent

“Will continue to oppose attempts to make JIPMER an autonomous institute”

PUDUCHERRY: Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) A. Anbalagan said on Tuesday that the party would continue to oppose attempts to make Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) an autonomous institute.

He told reporters here that the Union Health Ministry had not taken any step to improve the health of JIPMER where 900 posts of nurses, 119 posts of doctors, 28 posts of specialists and 572 posts of Group D employees had been lying vacant.

Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss had to withdraw the Bill in the face of stiff opposition from different parties, including the AIADMK in the Parliament, he said.

The AIADMK would demand the resignation of Dr. Ramadoss, he added.
