BELLARY: Traffic on National Highway 63 came to a halt for two hours on Tuesday following a “rasta roko” staged by the people of Bislahalli in protest against the failure of the administration to repair the road. The people said that respiratory disorders were on the rise owing to high pollution caused by heavy vehicles. Crops in fields on either side of the road were also affected. The agitation was withdrawn after officials promised to repair the road. The residents, in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, said that the road between Bellary and Joladrashi should be repaired immediately. They also demanded that compensation be given to farmers for crop loss. — Staff Correspondent
