Kadapa, Pulivendula in for big facelift

Special Correspondent

Chief Minister reviews the progress of the projects

HYDERABAD: Kadapa, the native district of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and Pulivendula, his constituency, are in for a big facelift in terms of infrastructure and civic amenities. Several projects, sanctioned to create or improve these facilities, are at different stages.

Dr. Reddy, who reviewed the progress of the projects on Tuesday, set deadlines for their completion, asking officials to speed up the execution and ensure benefits at the earliest to people.

Accordingly, works on the Rs 72-crore underground drainage project, sanctioned in Kadapa under a Central scheme, would be grounded in a fortnight for completion in 18 months.

Modernisation of the vegetable market, however, would be taken up after disposal of a case pending before the high court. A shopping mall with a multiplex would be constructed in 4.39 acres to generate income for the Kadapa Municipal Corporation.

A public health divisional office and a railway overbridge would come up in the town. Drainage system would be developed in Rayachoti at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

Drinking water

The Chief Minister wanted drinking water supply for three hours daily “at any cost” and speeding up of Shilparamam work taken up on 56.18 acres. He sanctioned a Rs 33.6-crore scheme to Pulivendula to ensure a supply of 7.4 million litres a day, covering a population of 74,000 by 2021.

The meeting fixed December-end as deadline to complete phase I of the underground drainage scheme and ground phase II. Underground and water supply pipelines would be completed by May 2008 on the Muddanur and bus-stand roads. The shopping complex in the vegetable market, Maisamma Bungalow and Old Municipal Office should be completed as scheduled.
