Refresher classes for drivers on how to deal with chemical spill cases Crisis group asked to prepare mandatory off site hazard mitigation plan SANGAREDDY: The Medak district crisis group that met here on Tuesday has decided to train the drivers of vehicles that transport hazardous chemicals and gases in safe practices. The crisis group chaired by Collector B. Venkatesam asked the department of industries, explosives and the transportation to organise periodical refresher classes for the drivers on how to deal in case of a chemical spill or gas leakage on a highway. The Collector directed the crisis group members to prepare the mandatory off site hazard mitigation plan by January and review the present status of safety in all industries of the district by mid-January. Responding to the call given by the Collector to launch a website for the DCG to disseminate e-information among member industries, Asian Paints has agreed to take up the work. Alert agenciesSuperintendent of Police R.B. Nayak asked the industries to inform the police immediately after a mishap inside the factory so that the police could alert other agencies like the fire and health departments. He complained that many industries do not have a security structure in place that could keep the onlookers at bay. He pointed out that in case of major fire, unruly crowds often become an obstacle to movement of vehicles. The deputy chief inspector of factories Chandramohan was also present.
