THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Tuesday decided to initiate acquisition of land for the Kochi Metro Rail project. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting that the Ernakulam District Collector would be asked to issue notification for acquisition. The notification would cover areas between Aluva and Thripunithura. The Chief Minister said the details about the project were yet to be worked out. However, acquisition proceedings were being initiated to ensure land availability when the project was ready. He said the agency for implementation of the project would be decided later. Process to start soonStaff Reporter writes from Kochi: With a meeting convened by Mr. Achuthanandan giving the green signal for the Metro Rail project on Monday, the Ernakulam district administration is set to start land-acquisition procedures. A tahsildar will be entrusted with the work. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said the acquisition process could be started as soon as the requisition regarding it was received.
