THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Tuesday that he would be taking steps to end squabbles among Ministers of his Cabinet, which had affected the image of the government. Talking to presspersons after a Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said he viewed the statements and complaints by the Ministers seriously and hoped that the measures he proposed would yield results. Admitting that there were problems in the Ministry, he said journalists had projected them according to their tastes and skills. “This resulted in poor opinion about the Ministry. The problem will be addressed urgently.” Replying to a question on disciplinary actions taken against a CPI(M) leader in Alappuzha district while the organisational elections were under way, the Chief Minister said the Polit Bureau had issued special directives for conduct of the party conferences in the State. Those in charge of the conferences could act only according to those directives. If anyone disregarded the directives, the affected parties could complain to the Polit Bureau which would intervene and decide the issue. Asked about the controversy about Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran suggesting use of milk and eggs in place of rice, Mr. Achuthanandan quipped that rice remained the staple diet of Keralites.
