BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday adjourned further hearing on a contempt petition by six physically challenged persons seeking action against certain officials of the Education Department for not having followed court orders relating to reservation of posts of teachers to them. The petitioners claimed that though the court had issued directions asking the State to carry out a special drive to recruit people with disabilities, it had so far not been done. The State placed before the court a Government order relating to the recruitment of more than 120 physically challenged persons as primary and secondary school teachers. It also sought time to put into process the procedures for appointment as teachers of three of the six petitioners in the contempt petition. The Bench adjourned further hearing on the case. AdjournedJustice D.V. Shylendra Kumar on Monday adjourned further hearing on a petition relating to grant of mining lease in Kumaraswamy Range in Sandur taluk of Bellary district. The State Government advocate submitted that a final report by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur, on mining in the area and records pertaining to mining had already been filed in court. The State had during the last hearing had the NEERI report titled “Rapid environmental impact assessment for mining operations in Bellary-Hospet Range.”
