Congress nominee for by-election

NEW DELHI: Bishwanath Malik will be the Congress candidate in the Assembly by-election in Balagarh, West Bengal.

Party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed, who made the announcement here on Monday, said there was no move yet for an alliance of secular parties in the State.

Nor was any decision taken on Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee’s request that a high-level United Progressive Alliance delegation or Congress president Sonia Gandhi herself visit violence-hit Nandigram.
