Kalai Arasi claims two gold

Karaikudi: R. Kalai Arasi of Alagappa University College of Physical Education won two gold in women’s 400m and triple jump in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate athletics meet at Umayal stadium, in Karaikudi on Tuesday.

The results (all winners): Men: 100m: D. Sakthivel (AUCPE) 11.1s; 5000m: P. Raja (AUCPE) 18:15.1s; 400m hurdles: A. Marimuthu (AUCPE) 1:05.4s; High jump: M. Pratap (Zahir Hussain) 1.63m; Discus: B. Prabhu (AUCPE) 34.44m.

Women: 100m: M. Emelda Rosemary (Ananda, D’Kottai) 14.5s; 400m: R. Kalai Arasi 1:11.9s; Long jump: A. Kalai Selvi (AUCPE) 4.79m; Triple jump: R. Kalai Arasi 10.9m; High jump: S. Murugeswari (Matha College, Manamadurai) 1.26m; Shot put: C. Uma Rani (AUCPE) 6.76m.

Ganesan scalps seven

A deadly spell of medium-pace bowling by Ganesan (Seven for 13) helped Lechatelier School defeat Hitler Cricket Club by 45-runs in the Rajadurai Amabalam Thavamani Ammal memorial Trophy District-level Twenty-20 cricket tournament at Madurai on Tuesday.

The scores: Lechatelier School 136 in 20 overs (Balaji four for 17) bt Hitler CC 91 in 15.1 overs (Ganesan seven for 13); Wings of Fire CC 121 for eight in 20 overs lost to TVS CC 122 for four in 17 overs (Raja 36).

Spark CC 188 in 19.3 overs (Balaji 40, Sathya four for 11, including hat-trick) bt Royal CC 108 in 19.5 overs (Karthick 47, Ganesan three for 12).

Blazer CC 40 in six overs (Santhosh four for 10) lost to Great Warriors CC 41 for one in six overs.

Olympus CC 154 for five in 20 overs (Srinivasan 42, Subramania Siva 41) bt KKR CC 78 in 18 overs.

Arun, Senthil hit centuries

Centuries by P. Arun Kumar (100) and Senthil Rajan (unbeaten 124) helped Indian Overseas Bank chalk out a 185-runs victory over G.K. Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-Tirunelveli DCA first division league at Sankarnagar Tirunelveli on Sunday.

The scores (First division): IOB 314 for six in 40 overs (P. Arun Kumar 100, Senthil Rajan 124 not out) bt GKCC 129 in 26 ovres (Sundariah 36, Parameswaran three for 30, Senthil Rajan three for 14).

Second division: National CC 107 for seven in 20 overs (Sundar 33, Badhusha four for 16) lost to Indians SS 109 for seven in 14.2 overs (Jaffer 30).

All-round show by Paulraj

An all-round performance by P. Karol Paulraj (59 and five for 27) helped Majestic Cricket Club defeat Nike Cricket Club, Oddanchandram by 128-runs in the Canara Bank-DDCA first division league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores (First division): Majestic CC 265 in 42.2 overs (S. Anbu Pandy 43, R. Ganesh Kumar 92, P. Karol Paulraj 59, Ravi four for 42) bt Nike CC 137 in 28.3 overs (T. Thirumalai Raj 52, P. Karol Paulraj five for 27).
