Sohail nets the winner

NEW DELHI: Midfielder Sohail’s 42nd minute goal helped New Delhi Heroes to a solitary goal win against formidable Hindustan FC, in the Delhi Soccer Association’s Senior Division league championship at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

After well-contested 40 minutes with both New Delhi Heroes and Hindustan creating opportunities, Sohail came up with a powerful left-footer from a distance to put his team 1-0 up.

Hindustan counterattacked through Lugun and Nathan but they failed to find the openings as New Delhi Heroes notched up its fourth straight win.

In another match, Shastri FC scored 2-1 win against former champion Simla Young FC. Basheer had put Shastri ahead in the 34th minute before inside-left Hare made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.

Jonathan Kingsley’s 80th minute goal helped Simla Young to reduce the margin but its attempts to find an equaliser bore no fruit. — Principal Correspondent
