Vanita fashions Karnataka win

HYDERABAD: A century by V.R. Vanita (139 not out, 149b, 12x4) helped Karnataka score an eight-wicket win over Tamil Nadu in the final round and win the South Zone inter-State women’s (u-19) cricket tournament here on Monday. For Tamil Nadu, N. Niranjana (113, 131b, 8x4) played brilliantly.

Karnataka won the championship with 17 points, while Hyderabad finished second with 15 points.

The scores (final round): Hyderabad 124 in 48.3 overs (M. Shalini 32, S. Lavanya four for 20) lost to Andhra 125 for eight in 45.4 overs (G. Divya 38, S. Soumya three for 19).

Tamil Nadu 243 for five in 50 overs (N. Niranjana 113, Vandana Sri 38 n.o.) lost to Karnataka 244 for two in 47.3 overs (V.R. Vanita 139 n.o., Veda Krishnamurthy 48 n.o.).

Goa 175 for nine in 50 overs (Shita Pandey 80) bt Kerala 152 in 40.3 overs (Shiny 56, Sunanda three for 33, Jessica four for 24). — Principal Correspondent
