MGU athletics from today

KOCHI: Quartermilers Mohammed Naseem, Sini Jose and the talented twin sisters Niksy and Liksy Joseph will be some of the stars to watch in the Mahatma Gandhi University inter-collegiate athletic championship which begins here on Wednesday.

The opening day’s programme has only the men’s and women’s half-marathon which will be run at the Willingdon Island, starting 6 a.m. in front of the Cochin Port Trust headquarters.

The action shifts to the Maharaja’s College here on Thursday where all the other events, including the inauguration by Sports Minister M. Vijayakumar, will be held.

The MG University is the country’s champion varsity in athletics and nearly 600 athletes will be seen in action in the three-day event. Jancy James, the MGU Vice-Chancellor, will be he chief guest at the closing function on Friday evening. — Principal Correspondent
