EC defers decision
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi: The Election Commission has postponed its decision on the replies sent by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress leader Digvijay Singh and BJP leader V.K. Malhotra in response to the show cause notices sent to them for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Deputy Election Commissioner Jaiprakash told journalists on Tuesday that the full Commission could not take a decision as one of the Commissioners was indisposed. Replies were received from Ms. Gandhi, Mr. Singh and Mr. Malhotra, he said but declined to say when a decision was expected. Mr. Modi was issued notice for his alleged remarks on the killing of Sohrabuddin and Ms. Gandhi for her alleged “merchant of death” comment.
