125 tsunami victims get permanent houses

BIG RELIEF: Permanent houses for tsunami victims in Nagapattinam district.

KARAIKAL: Tsunami-affected families at Ammankoilpathu coastal village near here were provided 125 permanent houses on Tuesday.

The houses were built at a cost of Rs. 2.5 lakh each by Volontariat, a French NGO based at Puducherry.

DMK MLA and Leader of Opposition in Puducherry Assembly A.M. H. Nazeem and V. Omalingam, MLA of Kottucherry, distributed the houses to the beneficiaries.

Karaikal Collector N. Vasanthakumar said that more than 2,000 permanent houses have been distributed to tsunami-affected families in Karaikal district out of the target of 3,547 houses. The remaining houses will be built before the end of March and be distributed to the beneficiaries.
