Youth held on murder charge

PERAMBALUR: A youth was arrested on Monday for having allegedly murdered tanker lorry driver Madhavan of Manali in Chennai.
Police said Arumugam (38) and Abdullah (25), had boarded the tar-laden lorry at Manali near Chennai on December 1. The consignment was bound for Thurvarankurichi near Tiruchi.
On reaching Kazhudhur village near Veppur on the Tiruchi–Chennai National highway, the duo allegedly murdered the driver. The culprits, also drivers, sold the tar to some dealers and abandoned the vehicle in a village near here.
Based on a petition preferred by lorry firm manager Ramakrishnan to the Superintendent of Police Prem Anand Sinha, the Perambalur town police registered a case and arrested Arumugam. The other person was at large, police said.
