“Remove tough portions”

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: Schoolteachers staged a demonstration here on Tuesday urging the State Government to remove the tough portions in Tenth Class science and mathematics subjects.

The demonstration was organised by the Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers’ Association (Madurai district unit) calling for urgent action by the School Education Department in the interest of students. A demand was also made to the Government to implement the “samacheer kalvi’ system - uniform education pattern- at school level.

S. Baskaran, district secretary of the association, told reporters that the syllabus burden for Plus Two subjects has already been reduced twice whereas nothing has been done for the Tenth class students of the State Board.

“There are certain portions which are tough in science and mathematics. Tenth class students are finding it difficult and this is a genuine demand being made by us for students’ sake,” Mr. Baskaran said.

The teachers’ association also said that a positive decision on uniform education system in the State should be taken and implement it from coming academic year.

M. Xavier, association’s district president, said that there should be seven periods for social sciences subject and the existing number of periods should be increased.
