Thiruvananthapuram: The five-member committee set up by the government to prepare a project report for the establishment of a university for Ayush (ayurveda and other alternative medicine systems) have submitted a project proposal for Rs.60 crore. Under the proposal, the university could start functioning by September 2008, with the full implementation of the project by 2010. Convener of the committee and Director of Ayurveda Medical Education K. Sankaran submitted the proposal to Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy here on Tuesday. The committee proposed that out of the total project cost of Rs.60 crore, the State government and the Central Department of Ayush put in Rs.20 crore each and that the rest could be mobilised through loans and the income-generation from the university. The committee observed that the establishment of the university was essential for encouraging research and development in the ancient science of ayurveda.
