KOCHI: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac will inaugurate the second phase of ‘From Walayar to Ernakulam’ project, which is being enforced by the Commercial Taxes Department, here on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The government aims at a steep increase in tax revenue during the second phase, which proposes stringent examination by segregating lakhs of declarations of the cargo that passes through the check posts and comparing them with the returns filed by the traders. Ernakulam and Mattanchery commercial taxes districts are the State’s main tax earners. As continuous monitoring is ensured under this system, honest traders would benefit. The project, which helps prevent tax drain, would result in a huge increase in the State’s resource mobilisation, said Commercial Taxes Deputy Commissioner, Mattanchery, K.A. Soman.
