Unapproved areas require Rs. 63 crore

TIRUPUR: A recent study conducted by the municipal authorities in all the 175 unapproved areas in Tirupur town has brought to the fore the facilities they require.
According to sources, 30 teams of engineers and town planning officials from nearby local bodies were deployed to assess the needs of the town.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will upgrade the municipality to Municipal Corporation on December 29.
The teams have suggested taking up development works barring underground drainage at a cost of Rs. 63 crore.
Study
The study pointed out that roads need to be laid to a length of 88 km in these under developed areas of the town at an estimated cost of Rs. 16.71crore. And 2,090 streetlights has to be installed at a cost of Rs. 1.32 crore.
The teams highlighted the need to construct storm water drains at majority of areas. Drainages need to be constructed at least to a length of 153 km at a cost of Rs. 40 crore.
The team of engineers wanted construction of culverts at 738 places at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.38 crore.
Water supply pipes should be laid to 21 km at a cost of Rs. 38 lakh.
For the underground drainage scheme, the study emphasised laying of main pipes to a length of 93.5 km in these areas.
