SC corporation to be nodal agency

HYDERABAD: The Centre has decided to route its programme of training persons belonging to weaker sections communities as bedside attendants through the AP Scheduled Castes Cooperative Finance Corporation, for taking care of ailing elderly persons.

These persons are mostly involved in sweeping duties undertaken by private organisations.

This decision was taken recently by Union Minister for Social Justice Meira Kumar at a meeting with representatives of NGOs in New Delhi to review the action plan on ageing.

K. R. Gangadharan, chairman of the Heritage Foundation, who was among the NGOs to attend the meeting, told The Hindu that the foundation would be involved in the training programme both in Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
