“Selection of TV scheme beneficiaries unbiased”

CHENNAI: The distribution of free colour television sets is independent of political affiliations of councillors, Information Minister Parithi Illamvazhuti and Mayor M. Subramanian said here on Monday.

Participating in distribution of free colour television sets, they claimed that the procedure of choosing beneficiaries was transparent and free of bias. A total of 2,600 sets were distributed in Ward 101 in Egmore and 2,824 in Ward 19 in Royapuram.Mr. Illamvazhuthi said that the process of tendering was also transparent.

The administration was working towards a target of distributing 10,000 televisions per constituency, he said. So far, 6,202 have been distributed in Egmore. The number of television sets distributed in 28 wards with DMK councillors is 67, 971.

A total of 32,778 were distributed in Congress wards, 6,426 in PMK wards, 3,761 in DMDK wards, 4,563 in CPI(M) wards and 3,000 in wards with councillors from the Muslim League.
