Ganja plants destroyed in Virudhunagar district

CHENNAI: The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID of the State Police has destroyed ganja plants, weighing 1000 kg, raised in two places in the Kottaimalai forest area in Virudhunagar district. The plants had been raised at two places, each measuring half an acre.
Besides registering a case, the special unit had recommended to the Wildlife Warden, Srivilliputhur, under whose control the places fall to enquire and take suitable action, according to the DIG of the special unit, Su.Arunachalam.
Two held, heroin seized
The NIB CID on Monday arrested two persons near the Central railway station on Monday and seized 400 gms of heroin, worth about Rs.50 lakh in the international market. The names of the two were given as B.Ranjith (29) of Udumalpet, Coimbatore district and S.Senthil alias Senthilrajan (28) of Old Washermanpet. Ranjith had told the police that he was a graduate in microbiology and a former employee of a private bank. His father was working as a manager in a nationalised bank. Senthil had said that he was working as a collection agent in a private bank. The police were verifying the versions.
