It is a desperate move, says CPI

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: It is a desperate move by the Bharatiya Janata Party to name L. K. Advani as its prime ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha election, according to the Communist Party of India.

CPI national secretary and MP D. Raja on Tuesday said the announcement at the time of Gujarat elections was meant to “hoodwink the people.”

“Political crisis”

Mr. Raja said the BJP was caught in a political crisis and not functioning as a “responsible and constructive” Opposition party both inside and outside Parliament.

“The party has been suffering from the conflict of dual leadership. This is an attempt to achieve a compromise of sorts. There is nothing for the people, as the BJP has not been raising people’s issues,” he said.
