Sharmila ahead

MUMBAI: Bangalore’s zero handicapper Sharmila Nicolllet occupied the top slot on the leaderboard, leading by three strokes after day one in the WIGA-sponsored 58th ladies’ Western India open amateur golf championship here on Tuesday. She returned a par card with birdies on the first, eighth and 16th holes.

U.S.-based Shradhanjali Singh is close behind with 73, after a good front nine — one birdie and two bogeys — to go out in 36, followed by one birdie, three bogeys on the back nine.
