UCO Bank main branch celebrates 60th anniversary

PUDUCHERRY: UCO Bank Deputy General Manager N. Sivaguru on Wednesday said the bank has plans to do business to the tune of Rs. 500 crore by 2009 March. Speaking at the 60th anniversary celebrations of their main branch, he said that at present they were doing business to the tune of Rs. 376 crore.

Expressing gratitude to 75,000-odd customers, who have been with the bank from its inception in 1948, he said they had completed distributing around 500 visa debit cards to customers and around 3,500 more would be covered by the year end. The bank also plans to open one more ATM by January, he said.

Mr. Sivaguru disbursed loans to the tune of Rs 5.5 lakh to members of 11 self-help groups at a function organised to honour long-standing customers. French Vice-Consul in Puducherry Striby, UCO bank Chief Manager Spencer Ravichander, Senior Managers S. Venkatesan and S. Krishnamurthy, Manager E. Elumalai and trade union member G. Kannan were present at the function.

The tall white building was colourfully lit to mark the occasion.

UCO Bank inherited the present heritage building in which it has been housed from the Indo China Bank.

The UCO Bank had rendering treasury services for some time.

The bank, which was started as United Commercial Bank, has completed 59 years of service and is now stepping into 60th year. Apart from the main branch near the Government General Hospital, it has branches on Jawaharlal Nehru Street, Villianur, Bahour, Periya Kalapet, Mudaliarpet and Karaikal.
