ANANTAPUR: Congress leader and former Minister, Mohd. Shakir, of Kadiri was reportedly detained by the immigration authorities in Bangalore airport on Tuesday allegedly on the charges of not taking permission from the CBI court with regard to a criminal case in which he was an accused. He was about to leave for Haj pilgrimage. He was detained and arrested by the immigration authorities when he produced a passport other than the one he had surrendered to the CBI court in Hyderabad. He is an accused in a fake demand drafts scam of 1998 and was arrested by the CBI in September 1999. As the chargesheet was yet to be filed in the case the CBI court had directed Mr. Shakir to surrender his passport and he complied to this order. In the meantime, his legal advisors told him to get another passport with Kadiri as his address, as the one he was already holding had the Hyderabad address from the days he was a Minister in the then TDP Government led by N.T. Rama Rao, sources close to the former Minister stated. During the verification of documents the immigration authorities found that he had held another passport and had not taken the court’s permission.
