Pinarayi Vijayan to inaugurate delegates’ session Achuthanandan to address public meeting Kozhikode: The district leadership of the CPI(M) has chalked out detailed plans to make its party convention in Kozhikode from December 16 to 18 a memorable event. The convention is an opportunity for the district leadership to demonstrate its political clout and revive happy memories of the recent Assembly and Lok Sabha elections when almost all candidates it fielded or supported triumphed. Elaborate arrangementsElaborate arrangements have been made for the event. Party State secretary Pinarayi Vijyan will inaugurate the delegates’ session at the Tagore Centenary Hall at 9.30 a.m. on December 16. The conference will end with a public meeting on December 18 evening. Chief Minister V.S. Achuthananndan will inaugurate the public meeting on the Kozhikode beach. Besides the members of the party district committee, 312 party leaders selected at the 14 area conventions will attend the delegates’ session. The seminars organised as curtain-raiser for the convention are being held at the Muthalakulam Maidan. The event has already generated excitement among party workers who are organising street plays and music programmes as a run-up to the meeting. A function will be held at the Muthalakulam Maidan on Friday to honour senior party workers. Red Volunteers’ rallyThere will be a march featuring CPI(M)’s “red volunteers” on December 18. It will culminate in the public meeting on the Kozhikode beach. The march of Red Volunteers will begin from the bypass road at 3 p.m. and reach the venue of the convention on the beach by 5.50 p.m., passing through Mavoor Road, and CH Overbridge. A fund to meet the expenses for the convention was raised through sale of coupons priced at Rs.10 and Rs.25, Mayor M Bhaskaran, chairman of the reception committee, and C.P. Balan Vaidyar, general convener, said on Wednesday.
