Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University recently launched two short-term programmes in video production and film appreciation. Both the certificate academic programmes are for a duration of three months and will be conducted by the Centre for Media Studies on the campus. The classes will commence in January next year. The certificate programme in video production is targeted at media professionals and students who wish to acquire working knowledge of film making. The course will provide inputs on camera handling, lighting, sound and editing and will emphasise more on practical learning than theoretical knowledge. The course in film appreciation is open to all film-lovers, irrespective of their age and occupation. The content will focus on the study of cinema, film-viewing and critical assessment of the films screened. The fee for the course in video production is Rs.15,000, while that for film appreciation it is Rs.10,000. The minimum eligibility criterion for both the courses is Class XII from a recognised Board or equivalent. Admissions will be granted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Interested candidates can obtain application forms from the Centre for Media Studies on any working day. Ansal Institute of Technology (AIT), Gurgaon, has formally entered into an arrangement with North Carolina State University, U.S., on student and faculty exchange, credit transfer arrangement, joint research, curriculum review and development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in this regard has been signed by AIT Director M. P. Singh and American University Vice-Chancellor John G. Gilligan. AIT has already tied up with many reputed universities like Clemson University, North Dakota State University and San Jose State University. Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, has announced a three-day management development programme on contract management. The programme is designed to impart knowledge about legal issues in contract formulation and management of domestic and international commercial contracts. It will help in examining the principles, practices and issues relating to execution of commerc ial contracts and understanding the remedies available in the event of a breach of contract The programme will be conducted by Dharmendra S. Sengar, a law professor at the institute, along with business professionals, lawyers and arbitrators. Institute of Clinical Research (India) has invited applications for a one-year (part-time) post-graduate diploma in clinical data management. The course will begin from February at Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore centres. The students will be selected on the basis of an entrance test and a personal interview. The prospectus can be obtained from the Institute for Rs.500 on all working days between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The CMS Academy of Communication and Convergence Studies -- an academic venture of Centre for Media Studies -- will offer a two-year post-graduate diploma programme in communication management for strategic thinkers and competent media professionals. Graduates with a minimum of 50 per cent can apply for the course, while admissions will be made on the basis of the CAT/MAT score.The course specialisations include news media management, strategic communication for social development, communication research and communication policies. The first academic session of the Academy begins in July 2008. Other short term courses for media professionals are also in the pipeline. Parul Sharma
