Foggy conditions adversely affected traffic in Punjab and Haryana Minimum temperature in three Rajasthan cities dip to 6.4 degree Celsius DEHRA DUN: Biting cold engulfs most of Uttarakhand as several areas in the higher hills have been covered by snow over the past 48 hours. Besides Kedarnath, Tungnath, Chopta and Madmaheswar have been covered by heavy snow. Similarly mild to moderate snow has been reported from Chakrata, Jaunpur, Dhanaulti and Surkanda areas of Garhwal division. In Kumaon, the higher hills of Almora and Pithoragarh have been covered by snow. The higher hills around Nainital also received some snow. Normal life was adversely affected by continuous rain and snow in Munsyari, reports reaching here said. Widespread rain lashes PunjabPTI adds from Chandigarh: Widespread rain drenched most parts of Punjab and Haryana and this city on Wednesday even as the minimum temperature jumped up by about three notches in the region due to cloudy condition. Besides, foggy weather added to woes of people, forcing them to keep indoors. Ludhiana was drenched by 7.7 mm, followed by 5.6 mm in Chandigarh, 4 mm in Amritsar, 3.8 mm in Hisar, 1.5 mm in Ambala and 1.2 mm in Patiala, the Met office said here. The mercury in the region hovered between three to five degrees Celsius. However, chilly winds and foggy conditions adversely affected rail and road traffic in the region with several trains running about 30 minutes behind schedule. In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Narnaul recorded the lowest of 4.5 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees below normal. Chandigarh, Ambala and Ludhiana settled at an identical low of 10.6 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees above normal. While Amritsar recorded a low of 9 degrees Celsius, Patiala settled at a low of 11.7 degrees Celsius. Hisar had a low of 12.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal whereas Karnal recorded 12.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees Celsius above normal. The MET office has predicted light to moderate rains or thundershowers at most of the places in the region. It also cautioned about thunder squall or hailstorm with a wind speed exceeding 45 miles per hour at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours. The on-going winter season had so far claimed one life in the region. An unidentified man had died at Hoshiarpur due to cold on Tuesday , officials said. Cold waves revive in RajasthanJaipur: With the western disturbance moving in northern and southern regions of Rajasthan, cold wave conditions revived in the State on Wednesday. The minimum temperature three cities — Jodhpur, Churu and Mt Abu — dipped to 6.4 degree Celsius, the Met office said.
