Skill development courses in Haryana soon

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: In Haryana, the informal skill development programmes will start in all the government polytechnics for school drop-outs from January 2008, Technical Education Minister A.C. Chaudhry said here on Wednesday.

He disclosed that vocational training would be imparted to nearly 50,000 people in the informal sector during the 11th Plan period under the community college or community development scheme.

The courses would be offered as per the requirements of the present day industry.

Fundamental courses for development of personality and communication skill would be an integral part of each and every course.

The courses would be clustered in such a way to enable the students to have upward mobility. And after achieving certain credit points, they would be considered as eligible to take up the option of lateral entry in conventional diploma courses.

He added that a proper campaign for the awareness of community polytechnic courses among masses would be initiated. Mr. Chaudhry said that in addition to the conventional engineering courses, stress would also be laid on the non-engineering courses such as languages.

The fee structure of those courses would be kept on the lower side.
