Maintenance and repair works in existing buildings to be carried out The implementation of the works to be closely monitored Krishnagiri: The State Government has allotted Rs.1.23 crore for implementing the Namakku Naame scheme in Krishnagiri district in the current fiscal. Efforts have been taken to set up gas stoves with connection in all anganwadis in Krishnagiri block under the scheme, Collector Santhosh Babu has said. Speaking at a review meeting here on Wednesday, he said the scheme was aimed at ensuring sustainable development through active community participation in planning, resource mobilisation, execution of works and maintenance of assets created. Works selected under the scheme would be executed with public contribution. The contribution from beneficiaries and public worked out to be Rs.29.99 lakh. Funds allocationMr. Babu said that funds would be allotted for development works such as construction of classrooms, laboratories, toilets and compound wall for schools, primary health centres, veterinary dispensaries, libraries, noon-meal centres and fair price shops, hostels, anganwadis, maintenance of public properties, creation of water bodies, small bridges and culverts, upgrading of roads, cement roads, parks, playgrounds, traffic islands, installation of fountains and streetlights, purchase of furniture for libraries, government and panchayat union schools, computers for schools and libraries. Maintenance and repairs works in the existing buildings and facilities could also be carried out. However, desilting of water bodies cannot be carried out under the scheme. Individuals, private firms and voluntary organisations could make contributions to carry out a development work under the scheme. If the peoples contribution was more than 50 per cent then works could be taken up by the people themselves. People could also suggest works that could be carried out under the scheme. The implementation of the works would be closely monitored and reviewed by a committee headed by the Collector to ensure quality. An application along with a letter expressing interest to pay one-third of the total cost of the work should be submitted to the District Collector or the Project officer of District Rural Development Agency, Mr. Babu added.
