SCP issue: CPI (M) stages protest

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday staged demonstrations in six places in Puducherry to highlight their demands related to utilisation of funds for the Special Component Plan (SCP) in the Union Territory.

The demands included a white paper on SCP, constitution of a panel to monitor the implementation of the plan and identifying specific areas for allocation of funds. Tamil Nadu State committee member of the party T. Murugan said the government should immediately make public the guidelines given by the Central government to implement the SCP programme. It should also identify the list of beneficiaries, he said.

The party also wanted the government to form a panel comprising representatives of political parties and Dalit organisations at the district and local level to monitor the implementation of the programme. Land should be identified for distribution to landless Dalit farmers, he said.
