Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the case relating to the seizure of 10 tonnes of rice by the Punalur police illegally transported from the wholesale ration shop of a relative of the former Food Minister Adoor Prakash. The Bench comprising Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice K.M. Joseph ordered that the investigation be entrusted with the CBI within two months. The order came on a writ petition filed by Amarjan P. Rahim of Kottayam. According to him, though a first information report (FIR) was registered in connection with the seizure of rice there had been no progress in the investigation. The seizure of the lorry carrying the rice was effected in 2003. The petitioner had alleged that there had been allegations of sale of wheat meant for fair price shops in the black market since 2002. He alleged that a relative of Mr. Adoor Prakash was involved in the case relating to the seizure of rice. Petition dismissedA Bench comprising Justice K. Balakrishnanan Nair and Justice K. P. Balachandran dismissed an appeal filed by the Public Service Commission against a single judge’s order directing that the vacancies of High School Assistants in subjects such as Mathematics, Social Sciences and Physical Science be filled without insisting on the stipulation that the candidates should have a B.Ed. degree in the subject concerned during the currency of the rank list. The court also ordered that all candidates with B.Ed. should continue to be advised to the posts according to their turn. The rules regarding the qualification were amended on July 19, 2005.
