Focus on issues of public concern, Tiwari tells V-Cs

HYDERABAD: Governor N.D. Tiwari has asked vice-chancellors of universities in the State to prepare vision documents focussing on extension activity, with specific reference to issues of public concern and those relating to the environment.
Chairing a conference of V-Cs, in his capacity as Chancellor here on Wednesday, he said a university located in the coastal region could take up research on issues like global warming and Tsunami. Briefing presspersons later, Chairman of AP State Council of Higher Education K.C. Reddy said issues discussed at the conference included academic reforms, administration, changes in curricula and problems faced by students. Prof. Reddy said three Institutes of Information Technology proposed to be located at Basar, Idupalapaya and Nuzvid would be brought under the umbrella of what would be titled as ‘Rajiv Gandhi University for Knowledge Technology’. An ordinance would be issued soon, he said. Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Asutosh Mishra said there was a need for research and extension activity with specific reference to backward and tribal areas in the State.
