Allies consulted before naming Advani as PM nominee: BJP

Staff Correspondent

“His leadership is accepted to one and all”

“Majority of the Alliance partners welcome it”

Party decries Congress criticism of the move

SHIMLA: The Bhartiya Janata Party on Wednesday disclosed that all its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were consulted before declaring senior party leader L.K. Advani as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

Majority of our partners in the NDA have welcomed the move, said Satpal Jain, legal cell in-charge of the party. Mr. Jain who is spearheading the party campaign in Himachal Pradesh said Mr. Advani’s leadership was accepted to one and all in the NDA and everybody had appreciated the decisiveness of BJP in this regard.

Mr. Jain said the criticism by Congress of naming Mr. Advani for the top post by BJP Parliamentary Board is highly unfortunate.

He expressed surprise on the comments made by Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma that there were attacks on the Parliament during the NDA regime when Mr. Advani was the Union Home Minister. He said it was the Congress which had abetted terrorism and failed in punishing or registering cases against the attackers of Hyderabad Mosque, Delhi diwali blasts, Mumbai train blasts and Kanpur Court blasts, to name a few.

The BJP has mocked the State Congress in approaching the Election Commission against some of its advertisements in newspapers. Mr. Jain said the Congress rank and file was frustrated and disgusted with its leadership and there was nothing objectionable in the election advertisements.
