800 participants from 23 States take part in the three-day event TIRUPATI: Teams from West Bengal and Haryana shared the top honours at the 26th National Yoga Championships 2007-08 that concluded here on Tuesday evening. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh came third and fourth respectively. According to Andhra Pradesh State Yoga Association general secretary Brij Bhushan Purohit, the winners are: Komal and Dharmender, both of Haryana, topped in sub-junior (8-12 years) girls and boys categories, while Kiran Hendre (Maharashtra) and Bharat (Haryana) won in the junior (14-20 years) girls and boys categories. In the senior (18-25 years) category, Mandeep and Deepak, both of Haryana, won the top honours. Manisha Powar (Maharashtra) and Sk. Afsaruddin (West Bengal) came top in the elderly women and men (25-40 years) categories respectively. Manashi Dalal (West Bengal) and Gopal Krishna (Karnataka) topped the veteran men and women (40-50 years) categories, while Y. Rajeswari (Andhra Pradesh) and Jora Singh (Haryana) came in the Veteran B (above 50 years) categories for men and women. Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Vice-Chancellor Hare Krishna Satapathy gave away the prizes to the winners. Deputy Director-General (NIC) C.S.R. Prabhu, Indian Yoga Association general secretary Niren Mazumdar, AP State Yoga Association Chairman and president P. Sudarshan Reddy and D.N. Rao respectively, chairman of Indian Yoga Federation’s referee board M.S. Deswal and SV Yoga Institute principal S. Ramakrishna Reddy were among those present.
