NEW DELHI: In a major boost to its power equipment supply plans, Anil Ambani owned Reliance Energy Ltd. (REL) has won the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the 1,200 MW Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) project costing Rs. 3,725 crore. According to a company release, DVC has embarked on an accelerated power capacity addition plan for the XI Plan. The power plant based on 2 x 600 MW units is coming up at Raghunathpur, Purulia district in West Bengal. DVC has entrusted the implementation of this project based on coal to REL. The contract will be implemented in an accelerated schedule of 38 months. The DVC contract comes close on the heels of the successful implementation of the 2 x 300 MW power plant EPC project at Yamunanagar and the 2 x 600 MW Hissar power project in Haryana. With the above, Reliance Energy will be implementing coal-based power projects of capacity exceeding 3,000 MW on EPC basis, the largest in the private sector.
