Gopi, Sinimol win titles

KOCHI: Mar Athanasius College’s T. Gopi and Alphonsa’s P.M. Sinimol won the men’s and women’s half-marathon titles in the Mahatma Gandhi University inter-collegiate athletic championship which began here on Wednesday.

Only the half-marathon was conducted on the opening day of the three-day meet.

The marathon was flagged off near the CPT headquarters at Willingdon Island.

The action now shifts to the Maharaja’s College Stadium which will host all the other events from Thursday.

The Kerala Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar, will inaugurate the championship on Thursday.

The results:

Half-marathon: Men: 1. T. Gopi (Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, 1hr 10m 11.1s), 2. Linu Raj (St. Thomas, Pala), 3. K.B. Shibin (St. Thomas, Pala).

Women: 1. P.M. Sinimol (Alphonsa, Pala, 1:23.30s), 2. Tintu Jose (Assumption, Changanassery), 3. P.R. Renju (Assumption). — Principal Correspondent
