COMPLEMENTING EACH OTHER: R. Ramkumar and S. Suresh Kumar paved the way for Tamil Nadu’s comprehensive win over HP.

Chennai: R. Ramkumar and S. Suresh Kumar’s stifling spin-bowling helped Tamil Nadu beat Himachal Pradesh by 180 runs, in the Ranji Trophy Super League match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, here on Wednesday.

V. Yomahesh struck early, dismissing captain Sandeep Sharma leg-before for six. Left-arm spinner Ramkumar bowled frugal spells and extracted good turn and bounce. The top-order had some trouble dealing with the two spinners Ramkumar and C. Suresh, who bowled well in tandem.

Paras Dogra, who had survived a few close calls, lofted Ramkumar in the 20th over only to find Yomahesh. Munish Gupta edged one that spun well to M. Vijay at first slip off Ramkumar.

Struggle

The Himachal batsmen struggled while defending against the spinners. Ramkumar breached Barun Sharma’s defence for his third wicket, after Manvinder Bisla played at a quick one from Suresh Kumar to Vijay.

Sarandeep Singh swung his bat for a few boundaries, but fell to a good delivery from Suresh Kumar, that clipped the leg bail. Ajay Mannu’s resistance came to an end when he was trapped in front by Suresh Kumar in the 58th over.

Quick end

The tail collapsed in quick time. Himachal’s last four wickets fell in a space of nine balls.

Tamil Nadu gained five points from the match, improving its tally to 12 points from five matches. The host plays its next match against Rajasthan from December 17.
