Bangalore: G.R. Viswanath, member of the Indian team that last won a Test series against Pakistan at home in 1979-80 with a 2-0 verdict, was excited about India’s latest 1-0 triumph over Pakistan. “It is a sweet feeling to watch our team defeat Pakistan at home after 27 years. This victory is special and so was it when we won in our time.” Viswanath termed the last two sessions of the final day’s play as the best in the match. “The batsmen dominated all through but the last two sessions in which India applied pressure and almost pulled off a victory, was excellent. “If the light had stayed clear we might have won but with 12 overs remaining and Yousuf batting, Pakistan might also have saved the game. In hindsight I could say that we should have declared earlier,” Viswanath said. On the pitch, Viswanath said: “It is a fresh wicket and the dampness prior to the match also affected the preparation. Even the covers could not be removed in the days leading to the match. Yes there was a bit of uneven bounce and it did keep low on the last day.” — Principal Correspondent
